Carl Steinitz

Carl Steinitz, Alexander Wiley Professor of Landscape Architecture at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design. He studied under Kevin Lynch, a leading authority in urban design, and obtained his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has served as Chair of Harvard's Landscape Architecture Department, President of the World Planning Institute, Vice President of the American Planning Association, and Council Member of the World Ecological Society. Having taught at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design since 1966, he is an internationally recognised authority in landscape planning and urban design education. As a principal academic leader at Harvard GSD and head of landscape planning and urban design, he has made globally acknowledged contributions to modern planning theory. Professor Steinitz also holds honorary professorships at numerous international universities, including Peking University and Beijing Forestry University.
