IV. Basic Content and Procedures of the Re-examination
The re-examination consists of two parts: an in-person written test and an in-person interview.
1) Written Examination
This assesses candidates' accumulated knowledge from prior studies and practice, research capabilities, critical thinking, and communication skills. It aims to identify candidates with a solid foundation, precise conceptual understanding, and strong learning, working, and thinking habits. Please bring your standard drawing tools; no drawing board is required.
2) Interview
Candidate self-presentation. Each candidate must prepare a PowerPoint presentation of no more than 10 slides in advance, detailing their academic and research background, understanding of Peking University's School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, and personal research plans. The PPT format should be 16:9 with clear content and concise slides. The self-presentation should not exceed 8 minutes. Following the presentation, the re-examination panel will not immediately ask questions about the content.
Self-introduction PPT: Full-time and part-time re-examination candidates (excluding adjustment candidates) must submit by 8:00 PM on March 19, 2023. Part-time adjustment re-examination candidates must submit by 8:00 PM on March 20, 2023. Send to pkucala2023@163.com. File size must not exceed 30MB. PPT updates will not be accepted. Name the PPT file with your full name. Email subject line: "Full-time/Part-time Re-examination + [Your Name]"
English Proficiency Assessment. Under the guidance of examination staff, candidates will randomly select an English-language test question and answer questions from the interview panel in English.
Specialized Question Exchange. Under the guidance of examination staff, candidates will randomly select a Chinese-language specialized question and promptly answer the selected question.
Additional Academic Discussion. Based on the review of the candidate's application materials, self-statement during the interview, and responses to specialized questions, participating interviewers may pose targeted questions to the candidate. These questions may cover any aspect and aim to assess the candidate's academic interest, mastery and application of fundamental knowledge and concepts, breadth and structure of knowledge, attention to, understanding of, and analytical skills regarding practical issues, as well as language expression and communication abilities. Candidates engage in discussions with interviewers in Chinese.
Throughout the interview, candidates should respond proactively and positively to faculty inquiries, demonstrating their knowledge and critical thinking abilities.
V. Requirements for Submitting Re-examination Materials
Review Materials (To be submitted for verification on the written examination day)
1. Original valid identification document:
Mainland applicants must present their resident ID card.
2. Original academic degree certificates:
① For degrees obtained from domestic educational institutions: Provide original academic degree certificates.
② For degrees from overseas institutions: In addition to original academic certificates, provide original certification from the China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC).
③ Current students must provide original student ID or an original enrollment verification letter from their institution.
Submission of Materials (The following materials are to be submitted on the day of the written examination)
1. Application Form for Master's Degree Candidates: Candidates who have registered on the Peking University Graduate Admissions website (https://admission.pku.edu.cn) should log in to the [Online Application] module, select [Master's Degree Candidates], and click “Re-examination Forms” on the left side to download and print the form.
2. Personal Statement: Download and print from the Peking University Graduate Admissions website under [Master's Programs] -> [Re-examination Forms], or directly access the [Admissions Information] -> [Master's Admissions] -> [Regular Admissions] section to download the standardized form and complete it as required.
3. One letter of recommendation from a faculty member or professional familiar with the applicant's academic and research capabilities.
Applicants for the part-time Master of Landscape Architecture program must pay special attention: the personal statement should detail work experience, and the recommendation letter should be written by someone familiar with and able to evaluate the applicant's professional experience and capabilities.
4. Copy of valid ID document (front and back printed on one A4 page)
5. Copy of academic degree certificate (current students should submit a copy of their student ID)
6. A signed “Integrity Pledge” by the applicant (may be signed and submitted on-site during document submission).
7. Original Chinese transcript from the undergraduate institution. Mainland applicants must provide an official transcript issued by their graduating university (bearing the official seal of the university's academic affairs or archives department).
8. Portfolio of assignments (or works) demonstrating academic ability and development potential, including: representative coursework with instructor evaluations from university; major projects participated in (or led) during professional internships or employment; research pursued during free time; published achievements; all submissions must include verifiable contact information for references and collaborators (phone or email).
9. Additional materials supporting unique aspects of academic knowledge or abilities, such as participation in professional or volunteer activities, internships at international organizations, attendance at domestic/international academic conferences, involvement in professional/non-professional workshops (training), exchanges with domestic/international universities (including academic institutions), or exhibition participation.
Items 1)-7) are mandatory; items 8)-9) have no fixed format—submit concise, refined content.
All applicants must submit materials as required. Submitted materials will not be returned. Applicants failing to meet eligibility criteria will be ineligible for the re-examination. Applicants must guarantee the authenticity and accuracy of all submitted materials. Applicants bear full responsibility for any consequences arising from the authenticity of their materials. If submitted information is found to be untrue or inaccurate, the applicant's re-examination eligibility will be revoked. If the applicant has already obtained admission status or student registration, their admission status or student registration will be revoked in accordance with the “Measures for Handling Violations in National Education Examinations.”
VI. Assessment and Admission
1) The written re-examination paper is scored out of 100 points, with a passing score of 60 points.
2) The interview re-examination is scored out of 100 points, with a passing score of 60 points. All participating faculty members independently evaluate the interview. The average of all faculty scores constitutes the individual interview score.
Comprehensive Re-examination Score = Written Test Score × 50% + Average Interview Score × 50%
3) The candidate's comprehensive score is calculated as follows:
Initial Examination Total Score / 5 × 50% + Re-examination Total Score × 50%
4) Admission: Candidates who pass both the written test and interview will be admitted in descending order of comprehensive score until all available spots are filled.
VII. Payment:
Candidates must complete payment by March 20, 2023. Payment method: Visit Peking University Graduate Admissions Website, log into personal account, and click [Re-examination Payment] button on the left. Fee: 100 RMB per person per session. Fees apply per session for candidates participating in two or more expert panel re-examinations.
VIII. Transfer Re-examination Requirements
Our school's part-time Landscape Architecture program has at least 15 transfer openings. The final number of openings will be determined based on the preliminary admission results of the first round of re-examinations. We do not accept transfers from other universities or departments; only internal transfers within our school are permitted.
Specific transfer conditions are as follows:
1) Applicants who originally applied for Peking University's full-time Landscape Architecture Master's program;
2) Applicants whose initial examination scores meet or exceed Peking University's 2023 Landscape Architecture Master's program baseline score;
3) Applicants who obtained their bachelor's degree before September 2021.
Students who meet all three adjustment conditions above and voluntarily apply should send their adjustment application letter to the designated email: mla@pku.edu.cn
The application letter should state: I voluntarily apply for the Peking University part-time Master of Landscape Architecture program transfer re-examination. I have thoroughly reviewed the part-time program admission brochure and fully understand that this program is for targeted enrollment only. It does not provide on-campus housing, does not facilitate file transfers or household registration relocation, and does not offer employment placement upon graduation. I pledge to comply with all policies governing part-time graduate students should I be admitted. Attach your full name, ID number, preliminary examination score, and date of bachelor's degree conferral. Sign and date the application, then print, scan, and convert it into a single PDF file for submission.
The deadline for receiving transfer applications is 6:00 PM on March 20, 2023.
Applicants for transfer admission must also prepare the same electronic materials as first-round re-examination candidates in advance. If selected for the transfer re-examination list, these materials must be promptly submitted to the examination administrators.
The interview ratio for transfer candidates shall not exceed 150%, determined by ranking applicants based on their preliminary examination scores. Our school will promptly publish the number of transfer spots and the interview list on our website prior to the transfer re-examination.
Candidates who have received re-examination notifications are requested to ensure their email and mobile phone communications remain accessible starting today.
The complete list of re-examination candidates will be uniformly published after the deadline for accepting transfer applications.
