Detailed Rules for Admitting Master's Candidates via Recommendation and Exemption from Entrance Examinations in 2026
Should any provisions herein conflict with the spirit of relevant national enrollment documents or the enrollment guidelines published by the University Graduate School, the provisions of the higher-level documents shall prevail.
In 2026, our school will continue to admit full-time Master of Landscape Architecture (FMLA) students through the recommendation and exemption process.
Specific application requirements and procedures for the recommendation and exemption phase are outlined below:
I. Programs Offered for Recommendation-Based Admission

Note: Accommodation is not provided for professional degree graduate students.
II. Eligibility Criteria for Recommendation-Based Admission
1. Support the leadership of the Communist Party of China, demonstrate good moral character, and abide by laws and regulations;
2. Have obtained recommendation-based admission eligibility from their home institution;
3. Achieve a minimum score of 425 on the College English Test Band 6 (CET-6), or meet one of the following alternatives: IELTS Academic 6.5 or higher, GRE 325 or higher, TOEFL 90 or higher. (Only one of these English proficiency certificates is required; it must be obtained during undergraduate studies. Applications with insufficient English documentation will be rejected.)
III. Application Procedures
1. Online Application via Peking University Graduate Admissions Portal
From 10:00 AM on September 1, 2025, to 4:00 PM on September 10, 2025, the Peking University Graduate Admissions Portal (https://admission.pku.edu.cn/) will open online applications for the 2026 recommended graduate student program. Applicants may submit their application information through the “Online Application” module.
2. Application Materials
Both hardcopy and electronic application materials are required for this year's application.
Paper Materials:
(1) One copy of the Peking University 2026 Application Form for Recommended Graduate Students Exempt from Entrance Examinations.
(2) One copy of the Peking University 2026 Personal Statement for Recommended Graduate Students Exempt from Entrance Examinations. Statement Writing Requirements: Focus on “motivation for application,” “fit with the program,” and “career and life planning.” Key elements include but are not limited to:
- Explaining the reasons for choosing Landscape Architecture and the origins of personal interest; Demonstrate relevant academic background, research or practical experience (e.g., using the STAR method to quantify achievements); clarify specific professional and research interests, along with clear short-term and long-term career goals; Must integrate your understanding of landscape architecture to specify areas of interest or research focus, along with preparatory efforts (e.g., reading faculty publications, participating in internships, practical training, or research). Requirements: Express yourself sincerely, concisely, logically, and professionally. Support statements with concrete examples and data; avoid empty claims or exaggerations. Length: Approximately 1,200 words (not exceeding 1,500 characters).
(3) Two Letters of Recommendation for Peking University's 2026 Recommended Graduate Admission Program: Two experts (Associate Professor rank or equivalent professional title and above) relevant to the applied discipline must provide separate signed recommendations. Letters must be sealed with signatures across the seal.
(4) One copy of undergraduate transcripts. Affix the official seal of the university's Academic Affairs Office or the specialized transcript verification seal. Place the sealed transcript in a self-provided envelope and affix the Academic Affairs Office seal or specialized transcript verification seal across the seal.
(5) One set of award certificates. If the total number of awards exceeds five, provide up to five representative certificates.
(6) One copy of foreign language proficiency certification.
(7) Portfolio or supporting materials demonstrating academic capability and development potential, including but not limited to: ① Personal statement outlining professional mission, learning objectives, and career aspirations (approx. 300 words, not exceeding 400 characters); ② List and statistics of academic achievements such as teaching practice, professional practice, social practice, professional competitions, academic awards, and professional awards (select only representative achievements; no more than 5 items per category); ③ Representative assignments, works, or research outcomes, such as results from research or practice projects participated in (highlight a maximum of 5 key items across all types; no exceptions). For group or collaborative work, clearly state your role (lead/participant), list all contributors and supervisors, and specify your individual responsibilities. Portfolios or academic documentation must demonstrate your professional interests, career aspirations, aesthetic sensibilities, mastery of research methodologies, specialized training, technical skills, learning attitude, and accumulated research/academic achievements. Total page count shall not exceed 20 pages. Content must not duplicate items (1) to (6).
Applicants shall download and print items (1), (2), and (3) from the Peking University Graduate Admissions website after submitting their application. Item (7) must be printed and bound separately. All applicants for recommendation-based admission to this school, whether from Peking University or other institutions, must submit all the above application materials to the Graduate Academic Affairs Office of the admitting department.
Applicants must guarantee the authenticity and accuracy of all submitted application information and materials. Should an applicant provide false information, submit fraudulent materials, engage in examination misconduct, or violate examination regulations in any other manner, the university will impose severe penalties in accordance with the Education Law of the People's Republic of China and the Measures for Handling Violations in National Education Examinations (Ministry of Education Order No. 33), up to and including revocation of admission eligibility.
By 12:00 noon on September 12, 2025, applicants must place all completed application materials (uniformly printed on A4 paper) into a self-prepared envelope and mail (or deliver) them directly to the Graduate Affairs Office (Room 512) of the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, Peking University. If using courier services, please prioritize SF Express or EMS and monitor delivery status.

3. Registration via the Ministry of Education's Recommendation for Exemption Service System
The Ministry of Education's “National Recommendation for Exemption from Entrance Examinations for Graduate Studies Information Disclosure and Management Service System” (hereinafter referred to as the “Recommendation for Exemption Service System”), accessible at http://yz.chsi.com.cn/tm, serves as the unified information filing and disclosure platform and online application/admission system for recommendation for exemption. Applicants must obtain recommendation eligibility from their home institution (as verified by the list of recommended candidates submitted to the Ministry of Education's system). Applicants must register and complete the following steps in the system according to Ministry and departmental requirements: - Register and fill in basic information - Complete online application - Upload electronic photo - Pay application fee online - Submit program preferences - Confirm interview participation - Accept conditional admission offer
IV. Preliminary Review and Re-examination
1. Our college's selection panel will conduct a comprehensive and careful review of application materials, determine the re-examination list based on merit, and promptly publish it on the college website. Please monitor the college website and keep your phone accessible.
2. Applicants must arrive at the designated location on time to participate in the on-site re-examination as required by our college. The specific interview format will be notified to re-examination applicants in advance.
3. Re-examination will be conducted with a competitive ratio of 200%, and candidates will be selected based on merit.
4. Re-examination scores are calculated on a 100-point scale, with a passing score of 60. Candidates failing the re-examination will not be admitted.
5. Each applicant who passes the preliminary review will undergo a comprehensive interview lasting no less than 20 minutes. The entire interview process will be audio and video recorded.
6. Departments will conduct ideological and moral assessments of candidates during the re-examination and admission process based on the principle of seeking truth from facts. Key evaluation areas include political stance, ideological performance, moral character, compliance with laws and regulations, and integrity. Candidates failing the ideological and moral assessment will not be admitted.
V. Conditional Admission and Public Notice
1. Based on re-examination results, our institute will determine a provisional admission list by merit. Applicants who pass the departmental re-examination and obtain provisional admission eligibility from our university but fail to secure recommendation qualifications from their original institutions will have their provisional admission eligibility revoked.
2. Our institute will send provisional admission notifications to eligible applicants through the Ministry of Education's Recommendation Service System. Applicants must confirm acceptance online within the designated timeframe. Failure to confirm within the specified period will be deemed as forfeiture.
3. By October 20, 2025, departments will complete online public disclosure of the preliminary admission list. Applicants may log in to departmental websites or the Graduate Admissions Portal to view the disclosed list. Queries may be submitted to the department during the disclosure period.
4. Students admitted through recommendation exemption may not register for the national postgraduate entrance examination in the same year; doing so will result in revocation of their admission status.
VI. Qualification Review and Final Admission
Prior to issuing admission letters, the university will conduct a qualification review for recommended students with provisional admission status based on the following requirements. Those failing the review will have their admission revoked.
1. Complete all coursework and practical components (including graduation thesis or internship) required by the undergraduate curriculum.
2. Achieve a grade of “Good” or 80 points and above for the graduation thesis or design project.
3. No failing grades in required undergraduate courses after obtaining recommendation eligibility;
4. No record of disciplinary violations or penalties from the date of recommendation eligibility to the enrollment registration date.
Admitted recommended students must present original ID cards and academic degree certificates to the admitting department for verification on enrollment registration day. Failure to obtain a bachelor's degree and undergraduate graduation certificate before enrollment registration will result in revocation of admission eligibility.
