Alumni Homecoming Parent-Child Gardening Series

Since 2018, during the May Day holiday each year, Peking University's College of Architecture and Landscape and the Peking University Student Campus Public Welfare Construction Society have consistently launched the Alumni Homecoming Construction and Parent-Child Gardening Program. For seven consecutive years, alumni have returned to Yan Yuan with their children at this time. Under the careful guidance and leadership of faculty members, they jointly participate in practical activities such as constructing planting troughs, sowing native plants, and repurposing waste materials into flower pots. Through labor as a medium, they weave warm connections between alumni and their alma mater.

During the activities, the children not only experienced the joys of cultivation but also gained natural knowledge and creative fulfillment through wood-sign painting and plant science interactions. Moreover, they came to understand the cultural heritage of Yan Yuan through their parents' youthful memories. Over seven years, this springtime rendezvous has not only left countless heartwarming scenes in the landscaped garden but also passed on the spirit of labor and ecological values through intergenerational interaction. It has allowed alumni's affection for their alma mater to deepen through parent-child collaboration, becoming a cherished tradition within Yan Yuan that fosters shared growth and nurtures a sense of belonging.
