Cooperation Background
Guided by principles of equality and mutual benefit, a strategic partnership is established to form the ‘Peking University Xinjiang Water Ecological Civilization Research and Teaching Practice Base’ (formerly known as the Peking University Western Regions Water Civilization Research, Teaching and Practice Base). This initiative fosters strategic collaboration in industry-academia-research partnerships concerning water resources, water culture, and water ecological planning within western China, achieving complementary strengths, resource sharing, and mutually beneficial cooperation.
Cooperation Content
Establishment of Teaching, Research and Practice Base. Both parties jointly designate the ‘Peking University Western Region Water Ecological Civilization Research, Teaching and Practice Base’ as the teaching and research practice base of Peking University's School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture in Xinjiang.
Systemic Research on Water Ecological Civilization. Centred on the theme of ‘Research on Water Ecological Civilization in the Western Regions’, this initiative will conduct a series of studies on water resources, water engineering, water ecology, water environment, water security, water culture, water history, water planning, and ecological restoration in Xinjiang, arid regions of western China, and Belt and Road countries.
Joint Research and Talent Development. Utilising the base as a platform and the Academician Deng Mingjiang Expert Workstation as a foundation, form joint teams to conduct field investigations, seminars, and teaching-practice research on critical professional issues within relevant fields. Primarily through research and design workshops, collaboratively explore cutting-edge ecological and societal challenges. Annually co-discuss research topics, jointly apply for municipal, provincial/ministerial, and national-level research projects, facilitate international project exchanges and cooperation, organize joint field studies, and arrange student internships.
Resource Sharing Mechanism
Subject to national information security regulations, libraries shall mutually open their collections to facilitate data sharing within collaborative research domains, thereby enhancing research and teaching efficiency.

Five years (January 2025 to December 2029)
Distinctive Features
Focusing on water ecological civilization in arid western regions, this initiative leverages the high-end platform of the Academician Expert Workstation to establish an integrated ‘industry-academia-research-application’ cooperation model. It serves Xinjiang's sustainable development and territorial spatial planning, provides theoretical and technical support for water resources and ecological security along the Belt and Road countries, and establishes a leading center for water ecological planning research and talent cultivation in western China.
