It is with deep sadness that we at Faculty of Design and Architecture, Universiti Putra Malaysia receive the news of the passing of Professor Kongjian Yu — a remarkable scholar, visionary landscape architect, and a true champion for sustainable development.
Professor Yu was an inspiration not only to China, but to the world. His concept of “sponge cities” has reshaped the way we understand urban planning, water management, and our relationship with nature. His work has left a lasting impact on how cities can adapt to climate change with wisdom and harmony.
Here at Faculty of Design and Architecture, Universiti Putra Malaysia, we have long admired Professor Yu’s dedication to ecological design. His vision strongly aligned with our own mission to create sustainable and resilient communities. Many of our students, researchers, and academics have learned from his writings, his lectures, and his pioneering work.
Today, we mourn the loss of a great mind and a kind soul. But we also celebrate his life — a life that has inspired countless others to design with nature, to think boldly, and to act responsibly.
On behalf of FRSB Universiti Putra Malaysia, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and to everyone touched by his legacy. May his soul rest in peace, and may his vision continue to guide us in building a better world.

在马来西亚首都吉隆坡，博特拉大学设计与建筑学院，我们一直深深钦佩余教授在生态设计领域的奉献。他的愿景与我们致力于建设可持续和有韧性社区的使命高度契合。我们许多学生、研究人员和学者都曾从他的著作、讲座以及开创性工作中获益良多。
今天，我们不仅哀悼一位伟大思想家与仁厚之士的离去，也庆祝他的一生，一个激励无数人顺应自然、勇于创新、负责任地行动的人生。
在此，我谨代表马来西亚博特拉大学设计与建筑学院，向余国涧教授的家人以及所有受其影响的人致以最诚挚的慰问。愿他的灵魂安息，愿他的愿景继续引领我们共建更加美好的世界。
