We were deeply saddened to learn of the sudden death of Prof. Kongjian Yu. His work on “sponge cities” has been a great inspiration to us, especially in planning for Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. We had the honor of welcoming him to the IFLA World Congress in Nantes two weeks earlier and had the pleasure of getting to know him.

His passing is a great loss to our profession, but his achievements will live on and continue to inspire future generations. We have a special thought for his family, to whom we extend our sincere sympathy.
