It is with great sadness that I have learned of the passing of Professor Kongjian Yu. At the verge of finalizing my PhD dissertation, I realize more than ever how profoundly his work has shaped my thinking as a researcher, my practice as a designer, and my engagement as a citizen of our shared planet.

Professor Yu’s pioneering vision of landscape ecological security patterns and his systemic framework of the Sponge City have inspired generations worldwide. He not only transformed the discipline of landscape into infrastructure but also created places where people and biodiversity merge—living landscapes that offer resilience, beauty, and the joy of life.

Please accept my deepest condolences to your institution, to his colleagues, and to his family. His passing is not only a loss to China, but to the entire global community working to realign our cities and territories with ecological intelligence and justice.

I would be grateful if you could kindly keep me informed of any conferences, symposia, calls for papers or courses that may be organized in his honor. It would be both a privilege and a duty for me to contribute, as I am committed to honoring and carrying forward his vision in my own research and work.
