It is with profound sadness that l acknowledge the passing of the visionary ProfessorKongiian Yu.

His pioneering 'sponge cities' concept transformed how the world views urban infrastructureand water management.

I was profoundly grateful for the opportunity to meet with him virtually to discuss ourcollaboration and projects. lt was also an immense honor to later present a lecture detailinghis philosophy to my former organization.

Professor Yu's legacy is one of genuine global impact. His work will continue to inspiregenerations of architects, urban planners, and environmentalists to work in harmony withnature.

My deepest condolences go out to his family, colleagues at Turenscape, and the entirecommunity he influenced.
