As Secretary General of IFLA Middle east , I have had the honour to participate with professor You on a panel, do a webinar with him on nature based solutions for the CIC and Landscape Institute as well as being part of the IFLA World.Congress gathering in Nantes in 2025 where we met and discussed possible meeting during the IUCN conference that would be happening later in Abu Dhabi.

During all our interactions, Professor You was generous with his insights, human in his dealings and mostly inspiring with his smile and live for earth. His concept of spong cities and his experience and engagement in the landscape global community was impactfull and essential for the future of our planet.

As IFLA Middle east, we offer our sincere condolences for losing this landscape genius from the East as he was a source of  pride for Asia  and the global.landscape community.
