This week we were saddened by the loss of a great friend and a monumental figure in the discipline of landscape architecture. Kongjian was not only one of the most accomplished and impactful designers in all of China; he hovered... as a figure of enormous passion, persuasion, and impact internationally. More than that, he was ever generous with his time and energy, and especially empathetic with students and young practitioners.

In 2023, Kongjian was honored with the second Cornelia Hahn Oberlander Prize. The jury citation said it best: "He is a brilliant designer [who] is... a force for progressive change in landscape architecture around the world."

Today we mourn his sudden loss and send our condolences to his family, his colleagues at Turenscape, his students at Peking University, and his exceptionally wide international community.
