Dear MUDD Graduates-News

reached me in the early hours ofyesterday morning that we have lostProfessor Yu Kongjian in a planecrash in Brazi. This is iust the

saddest news. Professor Yu Kongjianwas the greatest in every way, a manof brilliance, vision and

accomplishment,a man of warmthand generosity, a man of new Chinawith deep understanding of old

China, committed to the land andthe people, committed to the greattruth of ecology as the basis of life. ltwas an immense privilege to haveknown him, and worked with him onthe outstanding studios he arrangecfor us in Beiiing in 2005 and 2019.1honour him for the opportunities hecreated for our graduates who joinedTurenscape and worked on projectsto make the world a better place. Hisdeath at such an early age is a lossfor the whole world.l extend mydeepest condolences to his familyhis colleagues, his students - andindeed the people of China. Pleasethink of him as l do, up there in thegreat pantheon of protectors of ourplanet.Sincerely, James
