My name is Mary, I was a summer intern from Canada in 2010. I will always remember my first encounter with Professor Yu. It was an unassuming weekend at the office when I took a break to look at the firm's projects postered in the hallway. I didn't know who he was then as he quietly stood next to me and we shared a moment of silence, "What do you think about them?" I shared more candidly than I typically would because his approach spoke of his thoughtfulness and I wanted to respect that, "Well, posters always show the best sides. I'm not sure if the clean lines translate as well in real life." I remember thinking how peaceful and amused this person was when he simply said, "Well, I hope you get to see them one day." He didn't tell me who he was, I only found out from coworkers days later. On Monday, I was summoned with two other interns, Stephanie and Frank, we were invited to travel free on a 3-4 days trip with Beijing university landscape architecture class to visit Turenscape projects. It was truly a wonderful experience and I am so grateful to Professor Yu for the opportunity. He was like a movie character in how layback and cool as he gracefully stepped into my life and opened the doors to show me a new world. Throughout my summer there, I had seen passionate side of him when he lectured a team to meet higher standards. I also watched him bike often to and from the campus cafeterias unassuming like an everyday person. To me, he's legendary and I respect him deeply for always burning bright with passion for what he believed in. Professor Yu, thank you for having came to my world and made it a better place. You made it a better place for generations of people to come. I will always remember you and thank you.
